Fashion journalism, taught by the much loved Ms. McClenningham has been a great experience so far. I have learned all about my writing and how to improve it along with how to do broadcasting. Though the broadcasting aspect of the class has been really nerve racking, I’m working on speaking slower and trying not to be too shy! I can’t wait to see what else the class has to offer throughout the rest of the semester!

Cheap But Chic

If you are looking for a jaw-dropping look such as Blake Lively at the 2008 Teen Choicer Awards it’s going to cost you. It takes a pretty penny in Hollywood to look that good. The dress alone by Tadashi Shoji will set you back around 500 dollars not to mention the Jimmy Choos that grace her feet won’t be cheap. I am here to offer you an alternative look for less. You can find a replica of the dress at goddiva.com for a mere 60 dollars. As of for the accessories you can either leave the belt provided or you can add your own like the one from brownfashion.com that will cost around 175. The cocktail ring will set you back 55 dollars from guyandeva.com, and finally the pumps are only 75 dollars from piperlime.com. When it’s all said and done you’re only going to spend up to $325 that’s a little more than half of just the cost of the dress. So when searching for that red carpet look, know that you can chic for cheap.

1. I picked this outfit because it was comfortable yet stylish.

2. One of my favorite designers would have to be Coco Chanel. I love the look of classic lines and colors such as black and white.

1. I picked the outfit I was wearing because it was comfortable yet fashionable and chic.
2. One of my favorite stores would have to be Urban Outfitters because they are very fashion-forward but at very reasonable prices. They bring fashions from NYC runways to the masses and you can make it wearable to your very own style.
3. I like to be fashionable so obviously the media inspires a little bit of my dress, but I think I inspire myself to come up with brilliant creations that are all my own. Just mix and match comfortable and cute.
4. I think I definitely dress for my personality. I am fun, some-what relaxed and always willing to try new things and look cute at the same time!

1. on the two days a week that I get to dress how I "like", I generally look to the weather as the first step in my outfit process. A good 5minutes on weather.com to help gage the day's temperature and humidity is always nice before I delve into my dresser/closet. For day wear, Usually stick to the whole "I'm not trying but damn I look good"approach...you know some sort of tee-shirt with skinny jeans and low boots that fold over and buckle...if that makes sense. If it's cold I throw on my lovely leather jacket and one of those hipster scarves.It's really casual but I like it. I have an assortment of jackets and tee-shirts (and when I say tee-shirts, I don't mean the ones I work out in...) that I'll mix up if I want to spice it up...you know how I like those crazy patterns.
2. favorite designer store would have to be Marc Jacobs, if I could afford it and I love guys dressed in Ted Baker. I think both are fresh and sophisticated...not overdone but definitely stylish enough to find whatever it is I want...again if I could afford it.
3. I think I just wear what I like, which is probably influenced by people I see on the street...I'd say it's 90% what I see on the street,5% what I see on the TV, and 5% what I have that is clean.
4. I think I dress for my personality. I have one friend who always tells me to change when we go to Carolina things because she thinks I don't like "Carolina" enough...whatever that means. You know what I mean.

Why Blog??

Blogging by definition is an ongoing journal of information updated by an author on a website. There are more than 70 million blogs that exist today. So what’s so special about people writing about their emotions for the world to see? Blogs give people an opportunity to express how they feel on all subjects and receive feedback from millions of people. Think about it, you’re able to give your opinion from the comfort of your own home wearing sweat pants if you want. Blogs are also engine-search friendly. So while dishing about what store you went shopping at this weekend you can hyper-link it to your blog , thus getting even more exposure. The blogging world is full of endless possibilities.
Since blogging is a great way to connect with other people, and in the education world it’s a wonderful opportunity. Even though fashion would probably be the last educational field where blogging would be considered useful, it gives fashion students a great way to express their opinions on the latest trends, or what designers they loved this season. This way other students are able to respond back and create a dialogue, students can gather inspiration from one another through their blogs. They are not only writing but also able to create their own creative flare on the site.
While researching the wonders of blogging, I came across a few sites that I felt were worth mentioning. Fashion Student, a blogger from London talks about her adventures and struggles being in the fashion world as a student. I thought it was interesting that she was living in a completely different part of the world and was struggling with what I deal with as a fashion student here in America. Another blog that I thought was interesting was I am Fashion. This blog gives a great description on designers and what they are up to and their general opinion on the fashion world. It’s great to be able to read an connect with others who have the same interest as myself.

Perfectly Plaid

This fall 2008 the plaid look is back. Everyone is mad for this rectangular pattern. Whether you’re gathering inspiration from the lumber jack look or want to appear to be innocent like a catholic school girl, there is a plethora of plaid to go around this fall 08. You can obtain these looks from high to low prices points. Designers such as D&G and Just Cavalli will cost you a pretty penny but if you’re looking for something at a lower price point you can accessorize with Steve Madden pumps or a buy button up from Forever 21. This pattern has also stepped it up a notch by offering more than the 1990 grunge red and black. It comes in colors such as purple, teal, and gold. So when searching for those perfect plaids remember your budget and show your fashion sense by picking an offbeat color.
